FAIRGROVE — Authorities are investigating a rash of recent thefts related to the Christmas season.
According to a report by the Tuscola County Sheriff’s Office, there have been mail thefts in the Fairgrove area, as well as an attempted break-in of the Fairgrove Post Office.
During Tuesday evening, someone is suspected of trying to kick open the door of the Fairgrove Post Office, but was unable to gain access.
“While taking the report, citizens reported finding mail scattered around town,” said Tuscola County Undersheriff Glen Skrent. “It was discovered someone had also gotten into area residences’ mailboxes and opened envelopes.”
Skrent attributes the sudden rash of mail theft as someone taking advantage of mailed Christmas gifts.
“Thieves know that gift cards and other items are being mailed out and received this time of year,” he said. “Please try to take mail out of your mailbox as soon as possible.”
This isn’t the only theft recently credited to Christmas greed. A home on Dodge Road was burglarized in early December for the same reason.
“People are taking advantage of others generosity,” Skrent said.
A few presents taken from the Dodge Road home were found along a ditch, discarded by the suspects. There have been no arrests as of yet in that case.
Skrent is asking anyone with information on these incidents to contact either the Tuscola County Sheriff’s Office or the Fairgrove Post Office.

What happened to KNOBBY with his eye in the sky? I thought he was watching over Fairgrove in his ultralight?
