Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at the James E. Cartwright Care Center in Saginaw, at the age of 88. Bernice was born on Christmas Day in 1922 in Caro, the daughter of the late Walter T. and Julia (Uhan) Sayers, and was a lifelong Caro resident. She was employed in her earlier years at Thumb Laundry & Dry Cleaning, where she would meet her future husband. Bernice was united in marriage with James Britton on Nov. 11, 1947 in Caro, and the couple cherished their 25 years together before his death in 1973. Bernice will be remembered most for her love of family. The family will continue to cherish Bernice’s common parting words, “Be a good girl.” Bernice is survived by one daughter, Linda A. Thompson of Saginaw; two granddaughters, Jennifer Christopher and her husband, Robert of Saginaw, Sarah Thompson and her significant other, Kami of Saginaw; one great-grandson, Zachry Christopher and his companion, Natalie of Saginaw; one brother, Leland Sayers of Caro; one sister, Joann Roose of Vassar and her beloved great-granddogs, Harley David and Haddie Mae and great-grandcats, Pooh Bear and Karamello and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Bernice was preceded in death by one sister, Helen Sayers. Funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Friday, July 15 at Ransford Funeral Home in Caro, with Rev. Gregg Mayberry officiating. Burial followed at Indianfields Township Cemetery in Caro. Memorials may be made to the James E. Cartwright Care Center or the hospice of the donor’s choice.
