LILLIAN V. KENNEDY, Caro

Died on Saturday, May 7, 2011 at Hills & Dales General Hospital in Cass City, at the age of 89. She was born on June 17, 1921 in Cass City to the late Neil and Elizabeth (Copland) Fletcher. Lillian lived most of her life in Tuscola County. She graduated from Cass City High School in 1938. She was a hard worker while living in Cass City. In 1940, she moved to Detroit with friends. Eventually, she was employed as a “Rosy the Riveter” in Detroit. In the fall of 1945, she returned to the area and worked at a grocery store in Colling and later the Clark Canning Company. The former Lillian Fletcher was united in marriage to Arthur S. Kennedy on Jan. 16, 1946 at Cass City. He preceded her in death on Dec. 6, 1972 in Caro. In 1967, she was one of the first employees of the Sears Catalog Store in Caro, where she stayed until 1976. She owned a gas station at Hooper and State until she sold it. In addition to her many years of employment, she was a wife, mother and homemaker. She retired to enjoy her hobbies. She is survived by five of her children, Gary (Lori) Kennedy of Caro, Laurel (Scott) Clark of Caro, Arlan (Vickie) Kennedy of Caro, Valerie Humes and Peggy Kennedy of Caro; one daughter-in-law, Lynne Kennedy of Las Vegas, NV; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister, Anna Childs of Caro and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Arthur Kennedy Jr. on June 7, 1949 and Charles Walter Kennedy on Dec. 6, 1993; a son-in-law, Terry Humes on Aug. 24, 2006; three grandchildren, Jill Moyer in 1973, LynLeigh Kennedy in 1991 and Rocky Clark in 1996; a sister, Mary Merchant on Jan. 12, 1968 and two brothers-in-law, Charles Merchant and Leon Childs. Funeral service was held at Caro United Methodist Church on Tuesday, May 10 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Jerry Smith officiating. Burial was at Elkland Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. Collon Funeral Home in Caro assisted the family with the arrangements.
