CARO — Caro and Mayville Fire Departments were called to the POET Biorefining plant in Caro on Wednesday afternoon when a small fire erupted in some ductwork.
At 12:15 p.m., the call went out and the two departments were called as a precaution; however ,fire suppression equipment had already squelched the flames.
“Fire suppression equipment is in place for circumstances such as this,” said POET Biorefining general manager David Gloer. “The fire department was called as a precautionary measure and they stayed on site until temperatures returned to normal.
“The ductwork is being repaired.”
Caro Fire Chief Dave Mattlin said a joint in their dryer system was causing the problem.
“They called us out just as a precaution,” he said. “We didn’t even have to wet a hose.
“We were there less than an hour.”
There were no injuries resulting from the fire and the plant is up and operating.
