UPCOMING EVENT: Tractors to fill the Fairgrounds

CARO — August 13, 14 and 15 are the dates for the 35th annual Thumb Area Old Engine and Tractor Association Show. Club members and exhibitors from throughout the state will be displaying antique tractors, farm engines and farm machinery at the fairgrounds in Caro.
Many of the displays will be in operation to demonstrate what life on the farm was like before today’s modern farm machinery took to the fields.
Displays will include equipment being powered by a steam engine, antique farm engines, as well as tractors to thresh wheat, bale straw with a stationary baler, cut shingles with a shingle mill, and other tasks such as pumping water and shelling corn. In addition, each day there will be a parade of tractors on the grounds.
This year, the show will feature John Deere equipment and will be hosting the Thumb Two-Cylinder Club, which was established in 1987 for the preservation and history of the John Deere two-cylinder tractor.
It will be a welcome addition at the show with the Two-Cylinder Club members bringing in their exhibits of tractors, equipment, toys and other John Deere collectibles.
After viewing the many displays, visitors can browse the flea market, watch the chainsaw carving demonstrations or sit back and enjoy a bowl of homemade ice cream while listening to the live music. On Friday and Saturday afternoon, music will be provided by Denny Ewald and Friends, and by Wayne LaPratt and family. On Friday and Saturday evening, Bob Shafer will provide the musical entertainment.
At 4 p.m. Saturday, there will be an auction of donated items with proceeds going to help cover show expenses. To keep the children occupied, there will be a pedal pull on Saturday and Sunday afternoon and they can search for candy in the straw pile all three days.
As always, all exhibitors and all makes of tractors and engines are welcome at the show. There is no charge to display items and exhibitors are welcome to set up their display on Thursday, Aug. 12.
For visitors, the admission is still only a $4 donation to The Thumb Area Old Engine and Tractor Association for adults. Children 12 and under are admitted free when accompanied by an adult.
